The Rome-Floyd Solid Waste Commission governs both the Walker Mountain Landfill, managed by the City's Solid Waste Processing and Disposal Department, and the Rome-Floyd Recycling Center, managed by Floyd County's Public Works Department. For more information about recycling see Recycling Center.

Items Accepted at Walker Mountain

  • Household garbage: furniture, clothing, toys, etc.
  • Construction Debris: wood, shingles, sheetrock, carpet, etc.
  • Inert Material: leaves, limbs, sticks

Items Not Accepted at Walker Mountain

Walker Mountain Landfill does not serve as a remote site for free bagged garbage. 
Items not accepted include: 

  • Hazardous waste, asbestos
  • Tires on rim 
  • Liquid waste
  • Mixed garbage with yard trimmings
  • Batteries
  • Appliances containing freon
  • Waste from outside Floyd County

Descriptions

Garbage and Industrial Waste: Kitchen or household waste and waste produced by industrial activity, including any material that is rendered useless during a manufacturing process such as that of factories, mills and mining operation - EXCLUDING ALL HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. 

Construction/Demolition (C&D): Waste generated from construction, renovation, repair, and demolition of houses, large building structures, roads, bridges, piers, and dams. 

Inert Waste: Soil, concrete, cured asphalt, rock bricks, yard trimmings and debris from land clearing operatons. 

Tires: Residential
