SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY
Terms of Use
By posting or commenting on any social media platform managed by the City of Rome, Georgia, you participate by your own choice and take personal responsibility for your comments, your username, and any information you provide.
The City of Rome maintains social media platforms for the purpose of engaging with our community; providing relevant and timely news, public information, and event updates; sharing public safety messaging; distributing urgent notifications that may affect residents, businesses, and visitors; and highlighting City services and initiatives.
Posting content on any City of Rome social media platform constitutes acceptance of the terms outlined in this policy.
Limited Public Forum
City of Rome social media platforms are designated as Limited Public Forums. The City welcomes constructive and respectful engagement and encourages comments that are relevant to the topic being discussed.
For purposes of this policy:
A social media platform includes any website or application used by the City to share audio, video, images, or written communication with the public.
Content includes comments, posts, messages, photos, graphics, videos, live streams, or other forms of communication.
The City reserves the right to remove content that does not comply with this policy.
Emergency or Service Requests
City social media platforms are not monitored 24/7.
In an emergency, call 911.
For non-emergency police matters, call 706-238-5111.

Posting a request for emergency assistance on social media does not guarantee a response.
Please be aware that comments and messages submitted to City-managed platforms may be subject to Georgia public records laws.
Endorsements
“Following,” “liking,” or interacting with the City of Rome or its employees does not constitute endorsement.
Comments posted by members of the public reflect the opinion of the individual author and do not necessarily reflect the official position of the City of Rome.
Moderation of Content
The City actively monitors its social media platforms and reserves the right to remove content that:
-- Is not related to the topic of the original post
-- Contains profane, obscene, or sexually explicit language or content
-- Promotes discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, disability, or other protected status
-- Contains defamatory statements or personal attacks
-- Includes threats against individuals or organizations
-- Promotes or opposes political campaigns or ballot measures
-- Solicits commerce or advertises products or services
-- Encourages illegal activity
-- Violates federal, state, or local law
-- Compromises public safety or security
-- Violates intellectual property rights
-- Violates an individual’s privacy
-- Encourages violence
-- Is repetitive or spam in nature
-- Interferes with or compromises ongoing investigations, City operations, or public safety
-- Contains external links unrelated to the topic or that direct users to malicious or inappropriate content
-- The City reserves the right to block users who repeatedly violate these terms.
Platform Community Standards
In addition to this policy, users are subject to the community standards and terms of service of each individual social media platform.
The City reserves the right to report violations to the applicable platform for review and potential action.
